There are many misconceptions about acne despite being one of the most common skin conditions around the world; the main belief being that it only affects young people. While it is true that acne will often become apparent during the formative years, many people do in fact find it a temporary condition although as many as nine in every ten people will suffer with at some point in their lives.

While the naturally occurring oil we produce called sebum does in fact clog the hair follicles, it is not the only substance to blame for the condition of acne and neither is oily skin either. Acne seems to be a condition that is not necessarily a natural one and something that past generations did not suffer with.

Fortunately acne can be treated and one off the many causes of this condition is the hormone adjustments made when a person is growing up although it can also be as a result of makeup that has not been removed fully or pollution. Other factors can be responsible to, like the consumption of too much junk and reprocessed food, which is high in unhealthy sugars.

For a recurring or severe case of acne, many sufferers turn to a dermatologist for a more aggressive treatment and in most cases, a prescribed routine and medication can help to treat acne. Usually, follow-up visits will be necessary to that the acne is being cured without further intervention being required.

The person suffering with acne must remember not to scratch at or attempt to remove and pimples as any bacteria carried beneath the nails could cause further infection.

This means that fingernails need to be kept clean and not dismissed because they look clean as almost all bacteria and germs are invisible to the naked human eye. To be on the safe side it is always wiser for an acne victim not to touch any of their pimples with their hands just in case.

The chances of perfect skin are virtually zero and you are more likely to suffer with acne if your parents also had the condition. Although the likelihood is that you will suffer from acne during your years at school and college.

When the condition is affecting the individual both physically and emotionally then this is a good time to take advice from a dermatologist. This article is based on information readily available but should be used as a guide only, so if you are unsure, contact a medical professional about your condition.
