Successful Alternative Acne Treatments
It is believed by the Chinese that acne is caused by heat and toxins carried in the bloodstream. Some people believe that acne is the result of poisons that are discharged into the skin due to poor digestion. Although opinions vary on the cause, most agree that there are several alternative treatments that can prevent or even cure acne.
The most basic alternative acne treatment is to follow a low fat diet, maintain proper hygiene and consume the appropriate vitamins. Saturated fat intake should be very low because it can damage the tissue in the body and induces inflammation. Also, it has been said that foods that may cause the body to build up heat, like coffee, garlic or other spicy foods, should be avoided.
Vitamin A helps maintain healthy skin, so it is vital to include a sufficient quantity in the diet. Zinc should also be included as it helps transport nutrients to the cells. In girls and women, menstruation sometimes causes acne to flare up. If that is the case, Vitamin B-6 can assist in regulating hormone production. Maintenance of daily bowel movements can be facilitated by eating a high fiber diet. In addition, acidophilus capsules may improve digestion.
There are several alternate treatments available for acne that are designed to be put directly on the skin. Some of these treatments call for a honey facial, which will cause your skin to be revitalized. To indulge in one of these facials, apply raw honey to your face and leave it on between five and ten minutes.
Another method of choice is tea tree oil, which is also applied directly on the skin. It is believed that this will prevent bacteria from growing on the skin.
Another method to treat acne and pimples is to use exfoliants. Alpha-hydroxyl acids, glycolic and lactic acids, which are found in citrus fruits, are believed to keep dead skin cells from building up. For example, lemon juice mixed with water can be applied to the face, allowed to dry for about ten minutes and then rinsed off. Those with sensitive skin may add more water to the mixture to reduce the “burning sensation”.
Alternate pimple treatments sometimes come in the form of oils made by herbalists. Some recommend using capsules of either evening primrose or black current seed oil. Others believe Echinacea or Goldenseal teas will bring better results.
Exercise, as well as relaxation is important in the practice alternative treatments for acne. It is essential to ones well being that the body is at its peak level. Alternative acne treatments tend to be controversial, especially with doctors, but the success of them depends greatly on the person and the degree of severity of the acne they are suffering with.
