Oral medications such as tetracycline , minocycline and doxycycline are antibiotics which are known to assist in treating acne causing bacteria. There are also some topical medications which can be used such as the antibiotics benzoyl peroxide or erythromycin. Sometimes a resistance to these treatments can develop but the one exception appears to be benzoyl peroxide.

Exfoliating the skin has been found to help minimize acne. To exfoliate, use a soft cloth or a liquid scrub. There are exfoliating products that contain ingredients like glycolic acid and salicylic acid that work to peel the the skin’s top layer, preventing dead skin from building up, mixing with the oil produced by the skin and then clogging up the pores.

Salicyclic acid which is known to assist in acne treatment can be found in a number of over-the-counter remedies. This works by firstly softening the skin and then removing the dead skin cells.Facial washes are another product which can be used and these normally contain salicyclic acid. You can also try using products which contain sulfur as their is some evidence that people have this helps in the treatment of acne.

Aside from acne medications and products, there are many natural acne remedies available. For instance, tea tree oil is a natural acne remedy that is becoming increasingly popular. Tea tree oil is found to be effective in killing acne-causing bacteria and reducing redness and inflammation of affected areas. Tea tree oil is found to be as effective as benzoyl peroxide, but without the skin irritation. Health food stores carry tea tree oil.

For those whose acne is the result of hormonal imbalances in the body, they have found that acupuncture is effective in restoring the balance. When the balance of hormones is restored, the result is acne free skin.

If you want to enhance your acupuncture treatment for your acne then you must consider some lifestyle changes. This can include changes to your diet such as less oily foods and less dairy products.

Another natural acne remedy is light therapy. A lot of people believe that acne-causing bacteria are sensitive to light’s blue wavelength. Thus, acne treatments that make use of light therapy involves shining blue light onto the affected skin for 15 minutes two times a week over a four-week period. This acne treatment can be expensive — it costs an average of $150 per session. It’s not 100% effective, either, although many patients have experienced good results. The great thing about light therapy is that there are no side effects; blue light does not pose any harm on the skin.

Despite all the efforts of the medical fraternity they have not been able to come up with a perfect cure for acne. There are certainly any number of treatments and methods which you can use but none of them will work for everyone.
