People with acne scars dream of the day when we can have smooth skin. We save money for that procedure that will end all the suffering of feeling less than good about out looks and ourselves. While others save for vacations or laser eye surgery, we save for dermatology sessions that will ease these feelings of being less than lovely, less than even average looking.

Finding that procedure we can afford or product and acne surgery combined is one or our lifelong pursuits. Figuring out the options is necessary. For some patients, the ability to have financing and payment options make the future idea of smooth skin a closer reality.

Expensive treatments: laser surgery is just that. Skin surgeons removal scar tissue resulting in smoother clearer skin. There is very low probability of future skin scars from acne. The pain involved is quite tolerable from low to medium for most patients. Males tends to have a lower pain threshold then females ” which is why females are probably able to imagine going through childbirth more than once even after the experience.

Fractional resurfacing is a laser treatment that results in about 60 percent improvement of acne scars after two or three treatments. It is safe to use on other areas of your skin including neck, chest, hands and has minimal side effects. It is recommended that the treatments be repeated over intervals of three to five weeks, and to also repeat the procedure from 3 to 5 times.

The beautiful smoother skin is the wonderful result of laser resurfacing. If you are worried about wrinkles by the way, you can have those smoothed out as well, or have brown spots removed if you wish.

You will pay a pretty penny for this, but it may well be worth it. Fractural lasering will cost anywhere from 1500.00 per treatment to 2500.00 per treatment. Non-ablative laser treatments, another procedure using lasers, will cost from 300.00 to 1300.00 per treatment.

Is it worth it? Well, make an appointment, look at before and after photos, discuss the pros and cons and decide for yourself. I believe you will do whatever you can to be rid of acne scars after you have had your first discussion with a dermatologist.

One thing for those who use Accutane to remember, a dermatologist will likely not use laser surgery for at least six months until you have stopped using that skin treatment.

The problem is that products like Oxy and Clearasil don’t take care for the source of the problem that causes acne. What they do is get rid of pimples one at time with the “zap zits” method after the zits have appeared. What good is getting rid of a pimple at a time when there is another just waiting to emerge? So instead you should treat what is causing the acne at its source to prevent the breakouts from occurring.

To have a really acne treatment that really works it needs to go after the acne and what causes it. This is the only possible way you will get your skin clear and keep it clear.

Options For Acne Scar Treatments

Apr 22, 2009 @ 02:49 pm by Matthew Chiang
by Kim Masters

People who suffer from acne as well as people who treat it, all agree that treating acne is tough. The main reasons are the individuality of the sufferer, the wide variety or treatments and the individual’s response to the treatments. Whether the treatment is successful or not will depend on a range of factors. Fortunately, there are many options and alternatives.

Every person’s acne is unique to that person. The cause and cares vary from one case to another. Some may be due to genetics, or the lifestyle, allergies, hygiene and the list goes on. One person might have an acne outbreak due to one factor, while for another person, the outbreak is due to totally different reasons.

Each acne case also has its similarities. A factor or set of factors have resulted in the excessive secretion of sebum or oil, which gets trapped in the pores on the skin. This in turn, creates a breeding ground for acne bacteria. The body will then try to fight the infection and results in an inflamed spot, or pimple. Acne treatments are designed to eliminate this condition.

The very first step should be to cleanse the affected skin thoroughly. You should use a mild antibacterial cleanser to kill bacteria and remove any excess sebum on the skin. Take note that the aim is to just cleanse the skin, and not to over dry it. The oiliness of your skin will determine how often you should wash your face.

Medications are numerous and many contain ingredients such as benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid in small proportions. They are very effective, but should be used with caution. Treatments with high volumes of these ingredients can be harmful to your skin. Microdermabrasion treatments are also popular and effective.

Acne scars might be caused by severe or untreated acne, and prevention is definitely the best policy, so you should never pick at pimples or ignore outbreaks. Scar treatment may contain some form of medication, laser or filling technique and they can be suited for various situations and combined with medication.

While they are asking you the questions be as truthful as you can in your answers for the best results.

If you have certain skin problems, the dermatologist will proceed with conducting a physical exam to take a closer look at them using a Woods light or dermatoscope. Say Goodbye to Acne: Top Tips to Get Rid of Acne

Apr 19, 2009 @ 05:00 pm by Mike Chartman
by Mike Chartman

Acne is a problem we all have. And contrary to popular belief, this problem doesn’t end with our teenage years. Acne is caused by the excess oil in our skin that clogs up our pores. And as long as our skin produces oil, we will always battle with acne. Though the most common forms of acne appear on our face (pimples, blackheads, whiteheads), acne can also sprout on our backs, scalp and other areas on our bodies. How do we get rid of acne? The following are the top three tips to banish your skin enemies.

1. Keep yourself clean. This point cannot be stressed emphatically enough. Acne is caused by bacteria and dirt, so it is of supreme importance that you keep yourself clean. Take frequent showers. Wash your face two to three times a day. Use a mild soap and stay away from harsh ingredients in skin products. Anti-bacterial soaps tend to have really stringent ingredients that could hurt sensitive skin. Use skin toner. Moisturize. Basically, follow the rules your mother told you about keeping your face clean. After all, mother knows best.

2. Keep away from oily substances. When you have problems with acne that means your skin is already overproducing oil. Thus, you shouldn’t aggravate the problem by ingesting or applying more oil. Stay away from oily food. Don’t use oil-based skin products or make-up. Use loose foundation instead of the cream ones. Oil is your enemy. Remember that.

3. Rehydrate and sleep well. Drinking water not only does wonders for your body, but your skin as well. It helps your system flush out toxins. So, drink eight or more glasses of water every day. Drink water as soon as you wake up and before you go to bed. It is also important to get six to eight hours of shut eye each night to combat stress. Stress makes your body produce more oil - believe it or not!

Clear Skin Care Products - Find Out Why the Ones You’re Using Will Never Get Rid of Your Acne

Apr 16, 2009 @ 01:21 pm by Felix Schmieder
by Felix Schmieder

Trying to find clear skin care products that actually work can be pretty hard to do. What’s happening is that you’re probably looking at all the wrong things. Find out why typical clear skin care products will never help and what you can do to change that.

Stop buying expensive gels and creams. They only burn a whole in your pocket and make your skin look terrible.

If instead you’ve been trying out more natural treatments like the oil cleansing method or a honey mask, good for you. They work much better than the harsh chemicals and they’re much cheaper too. They’re still not the best treatment, however.

So if these don’t work, what are you left with?

Nothing at all!

I’ll bet you’re curious why that is. It’s because the idea that you can rid yourself of your acne problem by putting something on your skin. Topical treatments will only reduce current breakouts; they can’t cure your acne problem.

Why’s that?

Acne problems actually begin inside of your body. It’s an indication that there are hormonal imbalances in your body. The only way to treat your acne is to treat these imbalances.

How do you treat these imbalances? Well there are a variety but some of the most influential ones are the foods we eat and the amount of water we drink. More specifically, they typical western diet that most people eat is just not conducive to clear skin.

We know this to be true because populations that don’t eat the typical Western diet have no instances of acne whatsoever, nor do they have any instances of diseases such as obesity or diabetes.

So when looking for clear skin care products that work, avoid treatments that work outside of the body and focus on products that will cure your acne from the inside out.

Tea Tree Oil For Clear Skin. Does It Work?

Apr 16, 2009 @ 12:38 pm by Joelle Atifah
by Joelle Atifah

If you are looking for a natural topical product for acne, you might want to research tea tree oil. The Australian punk tree produces a compound called terpinen-4-ol that is known to be an effective antiseptic. The essential oil is extracted by steam from the leaves and twigs. It has been used for hundreds of years for it’s healing benefits and the germicidal and anti-bacterial properties of this plant are well documented.

Tea tree oil has been shown that it can hinder and destroy microbes. It is speculated that because it can kill bacteria, it may help reduce acne by destroying Propionibacterium acnes, a bacteria that is associated with acne. This bacteria is very common and is usually not a problem. It’s when the pores of the skin get plugged up with excess oils, that P.acnes can inflame the skin causing acne to form.

Tea tree oil is found in many skin care products. I have tried one product that contained 5% benzoyl peroxide with tea tree oil. It did work well when I applied it at bedtime. In the morning I use a product containing alpha hydroxy acid to get rid of dead skin cell.It is helpful if you can keep excess oils and dead skin cells from plugging up hair follicles.

Many people will say they can’t stand the smell of tea tree oil. It reminds me of turpentine. It is quite strong. Not all tea tree products smell bad, some smell like camphor antiseptics or cleansers. Remember to use a clean pillow case every night. Old tea tree oil on a pillow won’t help your acne problem.

When you first use the tea tree oil, it can cause dryness and irritation. If you bought it full strength, it should be diluted with water to about five percent strength before applying directly on the blemish or lesion. Pure tea tree oil is strong enough to cause severe skin irritations. You can use a small shot glass or a Dixie cup of water to mix in 3 or 4 drops of pure tea tree oil. Don’t dilute it too much as there is the risk that it won’t kill the bacteria and possibly cause the P.acnes bacteria to become resistant to treatment. Follow the package instructions carefully.

Some people can have allergic reactions to some of these products. Safety should be your first concern. Keep this stuff away from pets and children. It is toxic if swallowed! If your using any OTC product including tea tree oil for acne, and it is not helping, the best thing you can do is see a dermatologist as soon as possible. Don’t keep trying every new product that comes along. Chronic acne left untreated properly, can lead to scarring and sometimes even affect a person mental state. There are different kinds of acne and they require different types of treatment.Using the wrong product or using it improperly can make acne worse. In fact, I would not recommend using any topical treatment (including tea tree oil) before consulting a certified dermatologist.

One Of The Most Effective Homemade Acne Treatments: Baking Soda For Acne

Apr 15, 2009 @ 04:01 pm by Felix Schmieder
by Felix Schmieder

One of my favorite homemade acne treatments is to use baking soda for acne. It’s very quick, it’s effective and it’s super cheap. This is great for controlling any breakouts you have.

For the first ingredient, look no further than the bathroom sink. No, not under it! I’m talking about regular old water. You don’t need mountain spring water imported from the mountains in Tibet, plain tap water will work just fine.

By now I’m sure you’re aware that the second ingredient is baking soda. You know, that stuff you used to make your volcano explode when you were little! Do yourself a favor, though. If the only box of the stuff you have is the moldy brick in the back of the fridge, buy a new one.

This is one of my favorite homemade acne treatments because the price can’t be beat and it’s pretty darn awesome at controlling acne. You may want to use apple cider vinegar in an effort to keep the pH of your skin balanced, but I’ve used it without it and I’ve had great results.

So what do you do? Its so simple that if youve made it this far, youve already got all the required credentials. Just mix up some of the baking soda for acne with a little bit of water and gently apply it to your face. Unlike other homemade acne treatments, you dont really need to sit on your face for a long time. Just a minute or two is fine. Then just rinse it off.

That’s it! Baking soda for acne and other homemade acne treatments are cheap and effective and that’s why I love them so much. This will run you a whole dollar. You can take the rest of the money you would have wasted on a cream and go invest in the stock market!

The only problem with baking soda for acne as well as other homemade acne treatments is that they’ll never actually cure your acne problem. The best they’ll do is help your skin look better by controlling breakouts. This is because acne begins inside of your body and these treatments are only on the outside.

To cure yourself of your acne, you have to pay attention to what your body says to you. Acne is just caused by a body in need when we consume certain trigger items. these include dairy products, red meats and vegetable oils. By avoiding triggers such as these, you can finally be free of acne forever.
